Handpainted Porcelain in Hong Kong

A true cottage industry in Hong Kong. In the early 1970s, Peng Chau island was a thriving industrial powerhouse. There were all kinds of factories making leather and rattan products, wooden furniture, and also the popular 'bowl painting’. Chiu Kee was one of the factories specialized in producing ' bowl painting’. During the heyday in the 1970s, the factory hadover 30 craftsmen including Master Lam who used his porcelain painting skills to feed his whole family.

坪洲的超記手繪瓷你可能早已認識。 希望你還會記得坪洲的過去,式微的工業,手繪的觸感,圖案花紋的意義。坪洲曾是一個繁盛的工業小島。在60至70年代,島上建有東南亞最大的火柴廠以及林林種種的工廠包括木器、船塢、皮革等, 不少的輕工業如燈泡製造、籐織、手工藝也非常蓬勃。全盛時期林超先生的超記瓷器廠聘有30多工人都以手繪花碗為生。

Canton porcelain 廣彩 The term Canton porcelain has been used to refer to several types of Chinese export porcelain over the years, as well as to the Chinese port of that name (which is known today as Guangzhou) . Canton porcelains are typically characterized by several variants of a border pattern.

廣彩是廣州地區釉上彩瓷藝術的簡稱,指廣州燒制的織金彩瓷及其采用的低溫釉上彩裝飾技法。亦稱 「廣東彩」、「廣州織金彩瓷」。指廣州燒製的織金彩瓷及其採用的低溫釉上彩裝飾技法,在各種白瓷器皿上彩繪而燒製而成的特色傳統工藝品。廣彩的生產始於清康熙年間,至今已有300多年的歷史。廣彩藝人繼承明代彩瓷的藝術特色,吸收西洋畫法,繪上具有嶺南地方特色的風格圖案,逐漸形成獨特的嶺南藝術風格,並將許多圖案固定下來,成為廣彩的傳統花款,例如花籃、龍鳳、彩蝶、金魚、古裝人物等。
